7th Grade Art
Course Description: This is an introductory class open to all seventh graders. In this class students will get to learn about many different genres of art, artists, artistic media, and creative processes. Students will create a variety of projects using different media including watercolor, tempera paint, markers, clay, colored pencils and graphite pencils.
Art Opportunities:
- 7th graders have the option of being involved in art club if they are interested in doing more creative activities outside of the classroom. Any 7th grader is welcome to attend.
- At the end of the school year we have a school-wide art show and every student will have at least one artwork displayed in the show! 7th and 8th grade students will be represented from my classes as well as Mrs. Shults' classes.
- Other art competitions / shows may come up and I will always keep students informed of any as they occur during the school year.
Student Work Examples: Below, there are works from past 7th grade classes. Projects may change slightly from year to year so students may or may not create the projects below, but they will be using the same artistic media that is shown.

Clay MasksWe talk about different masks used around the world, and various artists who create masks. Students then brainstorm different ideas and ways to build their own mask out of clay. We talk about ways to create different forms out of clay and then make the form! Once fired, students paint them with acrylic paint. |

ZendoodlesDo you love doodling? Most everyone doodles in different ways, and this projects harnesses the uniqueness of "the doodle," in a finished work of art.
Zendoodling is a type of art that incorporates line thickness, contrast, and pattern. Students learn how to create detailed zendoodle patterns that "pop" when you stand back from the design. The art of "doodling" is a great way for any student to learn about drawing with pen and also the elements of art. |
